Illustrator feature for the Polaris Music Prize. Discussing a poster created in 2018 for Kid Koala’s ‘Carpal Tunnel Syndrome’.
What Inspired the Design?
In designing the limited edition poster for Kid Koala's Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, I was inspired by the art of disk scratching, movement, and experimentation that are central to the album. My aim was to visually capture the raw, gritty sounds of the music through a fusion of texture and energy in the artwork.
Creative Journey. Challenges. Techniques. Materials.
My creative journey for this project began with conceptualizing the design, followed by executing the final work in a combination that begins with traditional hand-drawn mediums and then completed digitally. The main challenge was preparing the files for printing, a skill I've learned to improve over time!

Creative Evolution.
Visual art and music, in my view, share a deep connection as forms of art - both are mediums that give emotional responses. This aspect is a big influence on my work, and I often find myself immersed in music while I create. My involvement with the Polaris Music Prize has further pushed this perspective. It provided me with a platform to create artwork representing some of Canada's top musicians.
